God Cares about Speech Issues too

I wanted to give a brief update that we met with some of Big J's future school officials yesterday. This was a meeting to decide whether or not he would continue on an Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.). Actually they all thought he would NOT continue per the recommendation from his current pre-school speech therapist and the standardized testing that happened in March. However, I feel that my son is still behind his peers. What they don't really tell you in this whole business of being on IEP's is that you don't have to agree. You have a right to disagree and explain your position. So, that is what I did.

It was actually one of the most interesting meetings I have ever been in because it was covered in prayer. I went in not knowing if I would be swayed in signing the document "as is" (meaning I would go along with their recommendation of "No IEP" and "no future services" next year) or we would be making some changes. I could tell that the school officials were standing their ground at first . . . but then there was a subtle change of wind when I and my husband began to express our concerns and ask questions.

The conclusion is that our son will be tested in the fall by the speech therapist at his elementary school. This will decide whether or not he will continue on services there. To me this is a better conclusion because it is, in essence, a second opinion. I know there are a couple of factors here worth being concerned about, but I will just rest them in God's hands. He never fails us!

Awesome! There is no better place for those speech/school concerns to be than in God's hands...so proud of you for standing YOUR ground!
